Tonight is a particular honor for me because,

even though they weren't rich.

because in a generous America

you don't have to be rich

to achieve your potential.

we gather to affirm the greatness of our nation. 

우리는 우리 나라의 위대함을 확인하기 위해 모였습니다

not because of the height of our skyscrapers 

미국이 위대한 이유는, 고층 빌딩의 높이나

or the power of our military 

우리의 군사력이나

or the size of our economy 

경제 규모 때문이 아닙니다

our pride is based on a very simple premise 

우리의 자부심은 아주 간단한 전제에 기반을 두고 있습니다

summed up in a declaration made over two hundred years ago

"We hold these truths to be self-evident,"

That is the true genius of America

a faith in simple dreams

That we can tuck in our children at night

we are called to reaffirm our values and our commitments

there is not a liberal America and a conservative America

For alongside our famous 'individualism'

잘 알려진 '개인주의'와 함께

there's another ingredient in the American saga

a belief that we're all connected as one people 

바로 국민 모두가 하나로 연결되어 있다는 믿음입니다

if there is a child on the south side of Chicago who can't read 

만약 시카고 남쪽지방에 글을 읽지 못하는 아이가 있다면

that matters to me. even if it's not my child.

If there's a senior citizen somewhere

I'm not talking about blind optimism here

In the end. that is God's greatest gift to us

the bedrock of this nation.

a belief in things not seen

눈에 보이지 않는 것들에 대한 믿음

a belief that there better days ahead 

보다 더 나은 날이 오리라는 믿음입니다

I believe that we can give our middle-class relief 

저는 우리가 중산층의 고통을 덜어주고

and provide working families with a road to opportunity

I believe we can provide jobs to the jobless

homes to the homeless

and reclaim young people in cities across America

from violence and despair
